Meet the Musical Director...
Claire Powlson was introduced to music at the age of 8 learning to play the cornet then progressing to the baritone.
In 1993 Claire became a student at Salford University on the Band Musicianship degree course. In her final year she majored in Conducting under the leadership of Dr Roy Newsome and Dr David King, and brass band arranging under Peter Graham. Claire's hard work and endeavour culminated in her winning the Roy Newsome Conducting Award for the highest marked student conductor.
After graduation Claire held the position of Musical Director at several Manchester based band before moving to Northwich to teach. Claire, along with her collegue Jo Curry, then set up The Bostock Band for the many amounts of young people that were learning to play in the area. Nowadays the band has developed into a band for all ages and the standard has raised dramatically.
As well as being Musical Director to The Bostock Band, Claire works as a peripatetic brass teacher in Northwich, Cheshire, as well as being a published arranger under the mmi-music label.
